We are a student organization who holds the common interest of serving as the driving force in increasing school spirit; bringing together student leaders and the hardest workers of the student body! We help share student ideas, interests, and concerns with our SMS Family.
On January 2023, during the International Day of Elderly People, the Student Council paid a visit to Sharjah’s ‘Old People’s Home’ in order to show gratitude and appreciation towards the elderly.
The members of the Student Council collected charitable donations from students all over the school willing to take part in installing joy and happiness in the hearts of the elderly.
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day on November 2022, the Student Council took responsibility, along with the school’s clinic, to dedicate a day to raise awareness and educate students at school about diabetes. This event was combined with World Food Day to not only bring up diabetes and its effects but also to teach students how to maintain a proper diet in order to prevent the disease in the first place.
A morning assembly was held in which the Student Council gave a simple lecture to Elementary students, explaining diabetes as well as teaching them the value of eating healthy food. At the end of the presentation, free vegetables were distributed to teachers and students.
For the older students, DHA was invited to the school to conduct a lecture. Stations for free diabetes tests were set up for teachers and students. The Student Council health committee distributed fruit baskets along with mini cards with facts about healthy eating among the teachers.
Children must know their rights. To make sure of that, the Student Council organized lectures as well as other events and activities in addition to handing out brochures. On Wednesday 20th of November, the Student Council visited the CDA’s “Know your Rights” event, in which representatives of the council presented the Student Council’s work on children’s rights to CDA and UNESCO representatives. They showcased how the Student Council of the School of Modern Skills takes the wellbeing of children seriously.
To celebrate 51 years of unity of the United Arab Emirates, School of Modern Skills organized an event in which the Student Council played a big role. The media committee covered the whole event.
On October 2022, members of the Student Council prepared a morning assembly dedicated to all of the diligent and hard-working teachers in the school. The assembly began with a speech honoring and appreciating our teachers who support us tirelessly.
An emotional video created by the Student Council Media Committee was displayed to the audience. The video featured short clips of the teachers’ parents, families, and friends which they haven’t seen in a long time.
On October 2022, a morning assembly was held by the members of the Student Council for the younger students regarding the issue of bullying. They clarified what bullying is, the types, how to avoid it as well as how to stop it.
A short video was presented and students completed pledge forms to ensure that bullying will no longer take place, and to make students feel safe in their school.
